The city at the heart of Divergent
The Wire – Divergent Chicago.
It is interesting to watch the unfolding of Veronica Roth’s Divergent series on the screen. No spoilers, I promise. I’m going to discuss the series’ grand setting. It’s clear that a lot of work has gone into the CGI but it is more than just pretty veneer. For example, the electrical supply has been thought out and is provided by turbines mounted to the side of dilapidated sky scrapers and transit links to and from down town are provided using rail. There is also a lot of care taken to the “faction” head quarters which both exemplify the nature of each faction and are literally the only complete buildings in the skyline. One thing that hasn’t been touched upon though is where do things come from? Food comes from the farms, but nobody seems to be manufacturing things and none of the factions are charged with…
